Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use TryOpenClaw.

TryOpenClaw ("we," "us," or "our") operates the TryOpenClaw platform at tryopenclaw.cloud (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

By using TryOpenClaw, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect information through our authentication provider, Clerk. This may include your name, email address, profile picture, and authentication credentials. We do not store your passwords directly — authentication is managed entirely by Clerk.

1.2 Payment Information

Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your full credit card numbers, bank account details, or other sensitive payment data on our servers. Stripe may collect your name, billing address, and payment method details in accordance with their privacy policy.

1.3 Usage Data

We collect analytics data through PostHog to understand how you interact with the Service. This includes pages visited, features used, session duration, browser type, device information, and referring URLs. PostHog may be self-hosted or cloud-hosted depending on our configuration.

1.4 Error and Performance Data

We use Sentry to monitor errors, crashes, and performance issues. Sentry may collect technical information such as stack traces, browser and device information, IP addresses, and actions leading to an error.

1.5 Communication Data

Transactional emails (account verification, billing receipts, service notifications) are sent through Resend. We retain records of email communications for support and compliance purposes.

1.6 Instance Data

When you deploy an OpenClaw instance through our platform, we collect configuration settings you provide (instance name, selected options, API keys in encrypted form). The content processed by your OpenClaw instances is handled by your deployed instance and is not accessed by TryOpenClaw except as necessary to provide and maintain the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Process payments and manage your subscription
  • Send transactional communications (account verification, billing receipts, service alerts)
  • Monitor and analyze usage patterns to improve the Service
  • Detect, prevent, and resolve technical issues and errors
  • Enforce our Terms of Service and protect against misuse
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from public authorities

3. Third-Party Service Providers

We rely on the following third-party services to operate the platform. Each provider processes data in accordance with their own privacy policies:

  • Clerk — Authentication and user management
  • Stripe — Payment processing and subscription billing
  • Neon — Serverless PostgreSQL database hosting
  • PostHog — Product analytics
  • Sentry — Error monitoring and performance tracking
  • Resend — Transactional email delivery
  • Vercel — Application hosting and deployment

4. OpenClaw Open-Source Software

TryOpenClaw is a managed platform for deploying OpenClaw, an open-source AI assistant. OpenClaw is developed independently and is licensed under its own open-source license. Data processed by your deployed OpenClaw instances is governed by the configuration and integrations you set up within your instance. TryOpenClaw provides the infrastructure to run your instance but does not control how you use OpenClaw or the data you process through it.

5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use the following types of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Essential Cookies: Required for authentication (managed by Clerk) and core platform functionality. These cannot be disabled without breaking the Service.
  • Analytics Cookies: Used by PostHog to collect anonymized usage data. You may opt out of analytics tracking through your account settings or browser preferences.
  • Security Cookies: Used for rate limiting and abuse prevention.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

  • All data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher
  • Data at rest is encrypted using AES-256 or equivalent encryption
  • API keys and sensitive credentials are stored in encrypted form and are never logged or exposed in error reports
  • Deployed OpenClaw instances run in isolated containers with dedicated resources
  • We conduct regular security reviews of our infrastructure

While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

  • Account Data: Retained for as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
  • Payment Records: Retained as required by applicable tax and financial regulations (typically 7 years).
  • Usage and Analytics Data: Retained in anonymized or aggregated form and may persist after account deletion.
  • Error Logs: Retained for up to 90 days for debugging purposes.
  • Instance Data: Upon instance deletion or account termination, instance data is permanently deleted within 30 days.

8. Your Rights

If you are located in the EEA, you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Data Portability: Receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format
  • Restriction: Request that we limit the processing of your data
  • Objection: Object to our processing of your personal data

8.2 Rights Under CCPA (California)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know: Request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at contact@tryopenclaw.cloud. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days.

9. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction. When we transfer data internationally, we implement appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect your information in compliance with applicable law.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 16 (or 13 in jurisdictions where that is the applicable age). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at contact@tryopenclaw.cloud, and we will take steps to delete such information.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on our website and updating the "Last Updated" date above. For significant changes, we will also notify you via email or an in-app notification. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
